The Application of Green Design in Office Furniture

The resources, environment and population are the three main problems of modern society, especially the environment problem, which is causing great troubles for the survival and development of the whole human being’s society. Consequently, green design gained acceptance of various countries progressively. About one third of human’s time is spent in the office, so people are always surrounded by office furniture. For that reason, we decided to apply green design to the procedure of producing office furniture, the material is recycled and the structure is removable, which is environmentally friendly and saving resources.

Since 1990s, Herman Miller, a famous office furniture manufacturer of America, insisting on using “the earth friendly” materials, concerning about environmental factors and focusing on green design and clean technology, pollution-free manufacture and sustainable development as well. He also emphasized that all the parts of the furniture should be recyclable and reusable; he even cast part of the diagram and heading code of the material used on the bottom of the chair so as to make the clarification and recycling job more convenient. At the same time, he insisted on making all the furniture to be removable so that every component of it can be reused and recycled.
